It's wonderful that you're taking the time to do your homework and find a therapist that will be a fit for you. Honestly this may be one of the most important pieces in the whole process of counseling and therapy - that you and the therapist 'click' and are able to build a trusting, collaborative relationship.
Approach to counseling & Areas of specialization
In 2006 I set out on a path to be of some help to others, at least in the formal sense of counseling. First in Seattle, WA and now in Pittsburgh I have been invited into the lives of people experiencing homelessness to those who are well-off, and I like to believe the conversations I've been privileged enough to have with these people have been, in some small way, a part of their healing from abuse and trauma, from anxiety and depression, or from cancer and illness.

My approach to therapy is one of unconditional acceptance and nonjudgment while listening deeply to the wisdom in you and in your story. It is about working with you as you become more mindful of the relationship you have with your emotions, thoughts, and body while becoming more intentional and purposeful in how you respond to these experiences. It is about being real with each other, because if I’m not real, I wouldn't expect you to be either. And when you feel safe to be real with me, we can work on how that translates into being real in the outside world. It is about working collaboratively together and learning from each other.

While I work with people experiencing a whole range of life’s contentments and challenges, my passion and skill lies in working with people on:
Stress and post-traumatic stress
Depression and anxiety
Building emotional resilience
Fatherhood
Cancer
Grief and loss

For those interested in the formal terminology of therapeutic orientation, I am a humanistic therapist grounded in Existential and Gestalt theories, Neuroscience, and Buddhist Psychology.
